Q: How far north is Close Lake?
A: We are only 150 miles from the Northwest Territories.

Q: Why should we come fishing at your Lodge?
A: The only way you can get to our Lodge is to fly. There are absolutely no roads in to Close Lake and we are the only outfitters on the lake, so you are the only fishermen on the lake. The fish are bigger than most people have ever caught and there are more of them than you could imagine.

Q: How big a body of water is Close Lake?
A: There are approximately 32 square miles of water and about 40 miles of shoreline, 23 islands and 4 small lakes that some guys like to walk into along the creek.

Q: What is the weather like so far north?
A: I presently live in North Battleford which is in southern Saskatchewan and phone home every couple of days and the weather is most often nicer at the lake than it is at home.

Q: What do you mean by a 4 and a 5 day fishing trip? There are only 7 days in a week.
A: You leave Points North a 1:00 o'clock Friday afternoon and are into camp and unpacked and in the boat fishing by 3:00 p.m.; you can fish till 11:00 p.m. - that's 8 hours. You're fishing Saturday and Sunday and can be out fishing by 5:00 a.m. Monday until 12:00 noon - that's 7 hours, come in, eat dinner and you are on the plane at 2:00 p.m. It works the same way for the 5-day, Monday to Friday trip.

Q: What is the best time to come fishing?
A: Your best fishing is no different than on any other lake. Spring and fall are still the best times. In the spring, the lakers are right on top with the Northern pike. By the second week of July, the lakers begin to descend so you have to fish with pink ladies; then come September the water starts to cool off again and the lakers return to the top and their spawning grounds and you literally cannot keep them off your hook. The grayling and pickerel fish the same throughout the year. If you have any other questions, contact us.

Q: What kind of clothing should we bring with us?
A: Use common sense and bring more rather than less. Bring rain gear with you whether you need it or not.

Q: How do we book a fishing or hunting trip?
A: Book a trip with us right on the web site or phone me personally - Darle Weran at (306) 937-2855. I love to visit! (If there is no answer, please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.)

Q: Are the bugs and mosquitos very bad?
A: I personally didn't know what I was getting into when we first took over the camp so the first thing I did was to buy a headnet, but in the 5 years we've had the camp, I have yet to use it. We do have a few mosquitos so do bring along insect repellent.

Q: What should I bring?
A: Camera, lots of film, insect repellent, sunscreen.
